The client computer has attempted to promote itself to the master browser of the subnet and has failed. This can also be caused when routers or switches are misconfigured and propagate UDP port and broadcasts. In this case large numbers of event appear in the event log.

From a newsgroup post: "I just resolved a similar issue. My IP address and netmask were correct so according to TechNet I should not be getting this error message. Therefore, I disabled the adapter then enabled it and everything is fine. Note: This adapter had a static IP configuration at one time when it was connected to another network. Disabling and enabling the adapter seemed to reset the configuration completely".

If you're asking for technical help, please be sure to include all your system info, including operating system, model number, and any other specifics related to the problem. Would appreciate it if you could suggest some sort of permanent solution to this Thanks in Advance.

Improve this question. Community Bot 1. And on the topic of networks, what do your switches and routers have to say? Is it just Windows clients having a problem, or is your network gear getting slammed too? All the switches are unmanaged switches and they need to be restarted as well for the users to be able to access anything.

Well that's definitely not normal, and I'm not even sure how an election for the master browser service would do such a thing. I suspect that one of your unmanaged switches is flaking out and failing temporarily to cause this issue in the first place - and when it tries to reconnect it causes the master browser election you see as event , but hangs or causes a broadcast storm as well, which is actually what causes the network to "go down.

Go on to the computer identified in step 1 and go to the Services Administration panel. Click OK to apply your changes. That should have resolved the issue. If it continues to show… …you have to check the registry value on the computer. You probably have to reboot the machine to make the change take place.

Jade, I have made this change on several computers and thus far there have been no adverse effects. Hope that helps, -HTD. Hi, Nice when is happens on client computers.. Thanks in advance. Kind Regards,. Muhammad, Thanks. I was getting a warning and error message together.

Both seem to have gone away. Sancho, De nada! Fugeth, Glad that worked for you! It worked in my case too. Thanks Good job Michael! Unfortunately I can't help you there as I'm not a Linux wizard. Jeb, Interesting. Jad, I would say that you probably shouldn't disable on your SBS because that is part of what it is designed to do.

Rob, Thanks so much for that additional information. Any ideas on how to correct this please regards Max. Thank you!
